Welcome to Jefferson Middle School! Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and learn more about our facilities and our staff. The staff, students and parents are very proud of our school and we feel we have a great deal to offer students to make their middle school experience a successful one!

Our campus consists of the middle school building, Central Administration Offices as well as Strider Track and Football Field and the Martin Road Athletic Complex. Our school houses approximately 450 students in grades five through eight. We consider ourselves a very tight-knit, dedicated staff working very closely with each other, our students and parents to raise student achievement as well as providing enriching activities to promote social, emotional and physical growth. The faculty has high expectations for our students and we hope that through the four years at Jefferson, they will walk away with a solid foundation to go on to their high school experience and beyond. Our teachers are all content certified by New York State and are very knowledgeable and skilled in their respective fields and enjoy working with adolescents.

Our school year runs on 13-week trimesters. Three times per year, students receive report cards and at the mid-term marking period (6 1/2 week point of each trimester), students and their parents receive a thorough mid-term progress report. Recently we have added a Parent Portal to the District website for parents and guardians to access their child’s attendance and grades right from their own homes. If you are interested in receiving this information, please contact our guidance office. Besides core academic classes, each student also receives one hour of physical education every other day and rotate through six exploratories including Art, Technology, Music, Computer, Family and Consumer Science, and Health. Students receive instruction in all six areas in a two-year rotation.

Students at Jefferson Middle School are encouraged to join extracurricular activities both before and after school. We have the Jaguar Band, Strings Orchestra and Chorus programs in the morning as well as many sports programs in the afternoons. At the 7th and 8th grade levels we offer girls’ volleyball, basketball, softball and track and boys’ football, wrestling, basketball, track and modified baseball. We have a strong student government through Student Council and we also have such organizations as Honor Society, Yearbook, Colorguard, and Impact that students can participate in. Our school houses a before and after school program daily that provides academic and recreational experiences for students needing supervision during non-school hours. Our school is also active in many community service-learning projects. Each year our school participates in Make-A-Difference Day as well as this year our Student Council raised well over $4000 for the St. Susan Soup Kitchen in helping them move to a more convenient community facility. We have a very strong, active PTA. This organization is one of the backbones of making Jefferson a great learning environment. Please consider joining our PTA this year.

Since last year, Jefferson has added sixteen new classrooms that have state of the art technology. We have also rennovated our science labs, home and career room, art amd technology rooms. On our campus, Strider Field rennovations have been completed with new bleachers, track and scoreboard. It is a magnificent facility that our community will have full access for sporting and musical activities. The Central Administration offices are now located on our campus as well. They occupy the east corner of our building with updated offices.

We are very excited about what has been completed so far and look forward to the next set of facility completions. By November of 2007 our new cafeteria will be ready as well as the new music suite. All of our hallways are in the process of getting ceramic tile on the walls. The Library will be updated with a fresh look with paint and carpeting. In the late spring of 2008 we will have our auditorium and three gyms should be complete. The front look of the building will significantly change with new canopy and landscaping. The new construction as well as the rennovations will almost double the square footage of our school facility.

Should you like to visit and take a tour of our campus, please do not hesitate to call our offices at 716-483-4411 and make an appointment.
